Note from the Seller: 1974 VW Super Beetle Hardtop
* One German couple-owned from 1974-2024. They bought it new from Pitcairn VW, PA in late 1974. Kept in PA and MD then moved to the Charlotte, NC Region shortly thereafter where it remained until sold to current owner in 2024.
* Car was parked in the spare family garage until late 2023 after Husband passed away in 1997. Believed to be a true 45,000-mile machine with its original 1600cc Dual-Port engine rated at 46 H.P. Original owners only used the Beetle as a spare vehicle and weekend run-about to Lake Wylie and Lake Norman.
* Engine was gone through with full tune-up, valve adjustment, new carb from California VW Company 'CIP1', new alternator, new starter, recent new battery, air filter, belt, and replaced any hose that was aged out.
* Gas tank drained, cleaned and is good to go.
* Compassionate Restoration performed late 2023 - early 2024 with new, original color Marina Blue paint. Also, replacement of all window seals, fender beading with approved VW sets.
* The entire heating/ventilation system works as designed, with dash vents and defrost vent-direction dials doing their duty with the 'closed detent' setting working on both dials. The 2-speed ventilation fan does its' job well. The heater is strong and works as designed directed either through the defroster vents or the 4 floor vents. The little adjustable light in the lower dash still lights up the two heat controls in between the front seats.
* The front (frunk or bonnet) has the spare, jack tools and has a Super Beetle carpeting set.
* Suspension completely checked over and is in proper working order.
* Super Beetle Dash cover installed due to some dash cracking from sun exposure in its early years (common on this model).
* Every light bulb replaced just to have new lights around the entire car.
* Whole Brake System gone through, replaced aged-out items so it stops extremely well every time.
* New set of Tires and Wheel covers, have all four original wheel covers that go with the car.
* Great runner down the interstate, happiest at 65-72 mph all day long. A very nice, smooth-riding Beetle.
* This car was never fitted with a radio/stereo. It has the original VW radio block-off plate in the center dash and the little original antennae block-off plug on the left side of the front quarter panel.
* There is a spare setting on the wiper stalk to add an intermittent wiper cycle. It is the setting below the 'off' position. You just need to add the correct relay under the dashboard.
* Is It Perfect? No. It still maintains some patina from use. There is a nick or bump here and there. It is not a trailer queen. But no squeaks, rattles, thunks or clunks. It has been driven daily/weekly over the last many months.
* This last-series of Super Beetle Hardtop only ran 3 years; '73-'75. They are a touch bigger and a touch roomier than the regular Beetles and the earlier flat-windshield Super Beetles.
* Bone Stock. The last year of having a Carb before Fuel Injection came in for '75. Hard to find a '74 Super Beetle Hardtop in this kind of stock condition. Ready to be a daily driver if you are looking for a simple, reliable Bug or put it in a driving collection. It is sorted out from the years of sitting.
* Has had recent trips to Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro and Pilot Mountain. The Bug has been daily/weekly driven around the Triad and Triangle. It is ready to roll. And like any Old School Beetle, do not let it sit for more than a few weeks (they get cold-natured from sitting), Bugs are meant to be driven.
* Been running it with Premium Ethanol-Free Gas. And during the winter, been running Rotella T4 15w40 oil. Summer oil is 20w50. Next oil change due in March 2026. Next Valve Adjustment due at 48,000 miles.
* Treat it well''. It has some 'Herbie' in it."
