When Ford restyled the Mustang in 1967, it did not have the seismic effect on the world the way the original car did in 1964, but it did serve to provide a more modern platform for Ford to extract more performance from the car. The contemporary look-larger, more muscular, and smoother overall, proved popular at the time and this styling and performance combination largely carried over for the 1968 model year. Unquestionably, the Shelby Mustangs were the pinnacle of performance for the breed, with the GT500KR taking top billing. In 2000, Dominic Sena directed the remake of the 1974 Toby Halicki film "Gone in 60 Seconds". The star of the show was not an actor, but Eleanor, a heavily modified 1967 GT500 wearing gray paint with black stripes. It's interesting to note that when the production company originally ordered the car, it was meant to be black with gray stripes. For some unknown reason the colors were reversed and the finished product was a gray car with black stripes. White it surprised those on the set, it has been said that both Sena and Nicolas Cage like the color combination so much they accepted the car as it was delivered.

This 1968 Mustang was produced by legendary G.T. Continuation Cars under license from Shelby. Known as Carroll Shelby Special Number 021 Exp 500, this is a convertible painted as the movie production company originally intended. Boasting a host of Eleanor styling cues, the convertible is black throughout and realizes the idea of a power-operated convertible Eleanor. Open the hood and you will find an all aluminum Shelby-built and tested big block V8 dressed with Shelby valve covers and air cleaner, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, Holley carburetor, MSD ignition, aluminum radiator, and an automatic transmission. Power steering, power disc brakes, and BF Goodrich Traction T/A tires with Shelby 10-spoke wheels to help keep the Mustang's handling prowess. Open the door and you will find Carroll Shelby gauges, a Philco AM Radio, roll bar, and billet tilt steering column with woodgrain steering wheel.
